Baldwin Hanson

Baldwin “Bob” William Hanson, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was born May 16, 1915, in Western Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of John and Ida (Schmidt) Hanson. As an infant the family moved to Fergus Falls, where he attended school. Following his graduation he joined the C.C.C. and was located in Ely, Minnesota, until his return to Fergus Falls. On November 6, 1938, he married Evelyn Bergerud at the Aastad-Rock Prairie parsonage. The couple farmed for Tilford Christopherson. In 1939 they moved to a farm near Underwood. In 1956 they moved to a farm southwest of Battle Lake, residing there until 1984 when they moved to Underwood, where Bob was employed at the Underwood Creamery. Bob loved horses and spending time on the farm. In his younger years he was a champion downhill skier. He was a member of the Eagles. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 2008; and four siblings: Donald Hanson, LeRoy Hanson, Irene Anderson, and Doris Kvalheim. Survivors include four daughters: Sandy (Sonny) Tjaden of Fergus Falls, Shirley (Jerry) Budke of Green Bay, WI, Joyce (Jerry) Sholberg of Escondido, CA, and Linda Wiese of Fergus Falls; five sons: James (Gail) Hanson of Hancock, Jerry (Ruby) Hanson of Fergus Falls, Rodney (Ruth) Hanson of Benbrook, TX, Steve (Sherry) Hanson of Ottertail, and Daniel (Sohm) Hanson of Moreno Valley, CA; 24 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; seven siblings: Elfreda Botts of Fergus Falls, Violet Scott of Fergus Falls, Lucille Schmidt of Hutchinson, Olga Teberg of Fergus Falls, Marvin Hanson of Fergus Falls, Gordon (Marjean) Hanson of Underwood, and Lester (Dorothy) Hanson of Chula Vista, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to the Pioneer Foundation/Building Chapel Fund, or the United Church of Christ Cemetery.
