Audrey I. Johnson

February 28, 1928 — July 4, 2013

Audrey I. Johnson, 85 died peacefully on July 4th, 2013 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN.

Audrey (Anderson) Johnson was born February 28th, 1928 to Alfred and Irene (Zimmerman) Anderson.
Audrey grew up on a farm outside of Rothsay, MN with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. She attended grade school in Rothsay and high school in Fergus Falls. She worked as an x-ray technician at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

She married Eugene I. Johnson on November 3rd, 1946. They moved to Barnesville, MN in 1952 and lived there until Gene died in 2002. Her full time job was being a mother, but she worked part time at the Super Valu grocery store they owned, the Library in the Barnesville High School, Barnesville Savings and Loan Association and Johnson Insurance and Real Estate. She and Gene had 3 daughters, Rebecca, Barbara and Lorrie. Rebecca, the oldest was tragically killed by a car at age 4½.

Audrey attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She and Gene enjoyed music and loved to dance. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Barnesville and at their lake home, Cozy Point, on Long Lake near Fergus Falls.

Audrey continued to live in Barnesville until 2004. Her declining health brought her to Park Gardens Assisted Living and Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, before her move to Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead.

She is survived by two daughters, Barb, (Bruce) Lapka of Brainerd, MN and Lorrie (Mark) Carlson of Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren, Josh (Prudence) Anderson of Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy Anderson (and his friend Samantha) of Brainerd, MN, Tyler (Brandy) Carlson of Moorhead, MN and Elisha Carlson of Moorhead, MN and Bruce Lapka’s children - Justin Lapka, Minneapolis, MN, Monte (Cheyenne) Lapka, New York City, NY, Marco (Queenie) Lapka, Tawain, and Sunny (Brandon) Mass, Brainerd, MN; and 5 great grandchildren, Gavin and Jasmine Carlson , Sydney and Taylor Anderson, and Saywer Liao; 2 sisters, Avis (Russ) Lindquist of Boulder, CO; LaVerne (Neal) Morstad of Fergus Falls, MN and 3 brothers, Russell Anderson of Rothsay, MN, Merle (Mavis) Anderson of Anoka, MN, and Darrel (Jane) Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN. She has 3 surviving sister-in-laws, Audrey Anderson, Beverly Anderson and Bonnie Anderson, along with many nieces, nephews and dear and treasured friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Rebecca; sister, Adelore; and three brothers, Alden, Irvin and Dennis.

The family would like to thank the staff of Eventide Nursing Home and Broen Memorial Home for their wonderful, loving care provided to her over the years.

Audrey was a “light” to the world wherever she went. She had a sparkle about her with her big brown eyes, warm smile and sense of humor. Her family meant everything to her and those memories from times spent together will be cherished. She has touched many lives while here on Earth serving her Master and now her ‘dancing’ – free from pain – for Jesus Christ will begin in Heaven.
