Arthur Burton Walvatne, 89, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born September 3, 1917, in Ossian, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Laura (Kleppe) Walvatne. They moved to a farm south of Underwood in 1930. At the age of 16 he left home and worked for many farmers in the Underwood and Battle Lake areas. In 1944 he bought a farm near Phelps Mill and farmed there for 51 years. Art was known for his kindness to others, as he was always helping his neighbors when the need arose. He moved to Fergus Falls in 1995. He was associated with the Sverdrup Mutual and North Star Insurance Company, serving as a director and having other duties. He served in numerous roles in the Tingvold Lutheran Church, and later in the Messiah Lutheran Church. He also served on the Maine Township Board. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Ruth; two brothers: Russell (Bjorghold) Walvatne, and Ernest Walvatne; and a sister, Francis Walvatne. Survivors include two sons: Dick (Peggy) Walvatne of Fargo, and Curt (Nancy) Walvatne of Fergus Falls; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Leanna (Lawrence) Mavis of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
