Arthur F. Schmidt entered his eternal rest at the Fergus Falls Veteran’s Home June 8, 2014, having attained the age of 99 years, 2 months and 26 days.
He was born on March 13, 1915 to Friedrick and Frances (Heller) Schmidt of Montello, Wisconsin.
Arthur entered the Armed Forces June 28, 1941, having served 4-1/2 years during World War II. He was honored with the following medals for his service to his country: Purple Heart, Honorable Service Pin, Infantry Army Combat Badge, American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupied World War II Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Campaign Medal, Victory World War II Medal, Bronze Star, Four Bronze Campaign Stars, Efficiency Honor Fidelity Award.
Following his discharge, he and Deliliah Adeline Koppe were married March 8, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where they were faithful members. They made their home at 1416 Terrace Drive. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2010. He continued to live in the home until February 2012, when he entered the Veteran’s Home.
Art was employed by Leabo Meats and National Foods as a meat cutter, retiring in 1979. Through the years he was a member of the Minnesota Retail Meat Cutters Association and the VFW. In his active years his relaxation and enjoyment were hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and bridge. He especially enjoyed watching television, playing dominoes, cards and bingo. He also loved his birthday parties at the Veteran’s Home. Gratitude and appreciation are shared by all for the kindness and care he received from the staff during his time at the Veteran’s Home.
He was the last surviving member of his birth family having been preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Dorothy, Hilda, Ethel, Olga and their spouses, and one brother, Herbert.
Left to mourn his passing are many nieces and nephews and special friends, Brent and Tracy Finseth, Margo Nepper and DiaAnn Smidt.
Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Lakeland Hospice or Trinity-Faith Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 with prayers and remembering at 6:30 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
