Arthur E. Eckhardt

Arthur “Art” E. Eckhardt, 96, of Fergus Falls died on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his residence in Park Gardens, Fergus Falls.

He was born on December 29, 1920, to George and Amolia (Becker) Eckhardt in Breckenridge.
Art was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Agricultural School, then married Margaret Sander in 1948. They raised four children and were dairy farmers in the Fergus Falls area until retirement.

In his spare time, he enjoyed wood cutting, reading, visiting with people, fishing, traveling, farming, and gardening; especially growing apple trees. They were members of Stavanger Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Amolia; his siblings, Erma Evenson, Alma Oeser, Rachel Connolly, Martha Halstenson and Ann McFadin, Sam Eckhardt, Albert Eckhardt, Carl Eckhardt, Richard Eckhardt and George Eckhardt Jr.

Surviving him are his wife, Margaret of Fergus Falls; children, Mark (Kimberly) Eckhardt of Fergus Falls, Michael (Mary Pat) Eckhardt of Mahtomedi, Peggy (Sterg) Katirgis of Farmington, NM, and Susan (Brian) Schlueter of Fergus Falls; his sister, Theresa Bernard; grandchildren, Jon Schlueter, Jason Schlueter, Erin Schlueter, Kathryn Eckhardt, Rose Eckhardt, David Eckhardt, Jonathan Eckhardt, Hannah Eckhardt, and Matthew Eckhardt; great-grandchildren, Avery Schlueter, and Ethan Schlueter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Stavanger Lutheran Church
