Arnold Lunde

Arnold Burton Lunde, 97, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls, surrounded by his family. He was born January 12, 1912 in Wanamingo, MN to Erick B. and Anna (Kjos) Lunde. The family moved to Wyndmere, ND soon there after and farmed 7 miles west of town. He graduated from Wyndmere High School and attended North Dakota State School of Science.  He also operated a General Store in Wyndmere. In 1939, he married Alaine Dahl from Battle Lake. They moved to Fergus Falls and in 1946 along with his brother started the City Bus Service and operated it until 1950. He was also a service manager at Minnesota Motors. In 1953, they moved to St. Paul, where he was service manager for an auto dealership. The family returned to Fergus Falls in 1956 and returned to farming. In the early 1960’s Arnold started a self service drycleaners in Fergus Falls and also worked for Midland Oil until his retirement in 1984.  He and Henry Max made and sold darkhouse spearing decoys.  Arnold has been a resident at the Pioneer Retirement Community for the past 4 years. He was one of the founding members of the YMCA Y’s Folks, a volunteer driver for many elderly through Otter Tail County Social Services and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran church, where he taught Senior Sunday School for many years. Arnold enjoyed his family and friends, especially the times they shared at the cabin on Pebble Lake. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, good old time music and dancing. One of the highlights of his life was winning a 1960 new red Corvair car at the Otter Tail County Fair, which is still in the family today. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Alaine, who died in 1983; brother, Morris Lunde; and his second wife, Marion (Albers) Lunde; his brothers-in-law, Orin (Dorothy) Dahl and Kelly (Elaine) Dahl. Survivors include his three children, David (Rene’e) Lunde, Alan (Carolyn) Lunde and Janice (Arlen) Fronning all of Fergus Falls; nine grandchildren, Melanie (Wayne) Runningen of Pelican Rapids, Mara (Mark) Davis of Ft. Collins, CO, Tracy (Greg) Schmidt of Fergus Falls, Lori (Chad) Veitenheimer of Fergus Falls, Jay (Stephanie) Lunde of Lakeville, Melissa (Jeff) Strande of Lakeville, Tara (Jason) Price of Fergus Falls, Andrew (Megan) Lunde of Fergus Falls and Erick (Jennifer) Fronning of Fergus Falls; 17 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Emmy (Duane) Deveraux of Woodbury; Marion’s daughter, Marjorie (Harvey) Hanson of Fergus Falls, and son, Ernest (Darlene) of Texas, and their families; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a devoted father, husband and grandfather, and will be missed deeply. Visitation:   5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m at the  funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service  at the church.
