July 23, 1933 — August 12, 2012

Arnold “Arne” Carroll Erickson, 79, of Fergus Falls, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Arne was born July 26, 1933, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was the oldest of three children and son of Cora Elaine (Trosvick) Erickson and Arnold Joseph Erickson. Arne enlisted in the United States Navy on August 7, 1951, and served until May 16, 1955. He served on the USS John S. McCain and later in the prestigious Ceremonial Honor Guard at our Nation’s Capitol. He married Gayle Mae Rudenske on February 26, 1956. They had four children and spent most of their married life in Fergus Falls. Arne worked in the agricultural industry which brought him to many states where he sold farm equipment, seed and supplies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and never gave up a chance for a good game of cards or a witty conversation about anything, especially politics. Arne had a passion for golf, hunting, wood carving and a quest to make the perfect pickle. Arne was a member of the American Legion, Cornerstone Lodge #99 and El Zagel Shrine. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gayle Erickson; two children, Marc (Bonnie) Erickson of Endeavor, WI, and Wade (Kristi) Erickson of Fergus Falls; three grandchildren, Mckenzie, Logan and Liv; two step-grandchildren, Tyson and Luke Stengrim; one sister, Margo (Roger) Schuetzle of Fergus Falls; a sister-in-law, Pat Stouten of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Bruce and Dean; his parents, Cora and Arnold Erickson; and a brother, Jimmy Gordon Erickson. At Arne’s request, a private family graveside service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012, with Chaplain Greg Hayek of the Minnesota Veterans Home officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
