Arlys Johnson

Arlys Johnson, 91, died Friday, December 27, 2024 at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids.

Arlys May Johnson was born on May 13, 1933 to Julia (Lemke) and William Scheer in Erhard MN. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and went on to Dakota Business School in Fargo.

She married Earl D. Johnson of Pelican Rapids on November 18, 1951. Bruce, their only son, was born in 1952. They resided in Pelican Rapids for several years while working various jobs. In 1962 she became the "Voice of Otter Tail Power" when she was hired to be their switchboard operator and she worked there until her retirement in 1995.

Arlys's faith ran deep and she was a part of Fergus Falls Women's Aglow, a member at Community Bible Church (now Life Church) and was a part of countless Bible studies and prayer groups. She loved to travel overseas on short term mission trips smuggling Bibles into Russia, Hong Kong and China. She also made it to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River. When she wasn't traveling, she loved to spend time with family, read, knit, crochet, play cards and go for car rides through the countryside or pontoon rides on South Lida. Arlys and Earl had several beloved dogs, most of them named Muffin. Most of all, Arlys loved Jesus and Arlys loved people. She mentored countless ladies throughout the community and helped them to deepen their faith. She was a treasure to all who had the honor of knowing her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Earl, daughter-in-law Jean, parents William and Julia, brothers Leonard, Donald, Russell, Willis, Grant and sisters Ethel and LaRayne.

She is survived by her son Bruce (Maureen), grandchildren Angela (Jamie) Nelson, Anna (Mike) Nelson, Daniel (Mandie) Johnson, great-grandchildren Kaitlin (Bob) Hegseth, Caleb Nelson, Cassandra Nelson, Alexis Nolan, Brendan Nolan, Abigail Nolan, Ben Nolan, Zoey Johnson, William Johnson, Wyatt Johnson and Maisy Johnson, sister Shirley Motchenbacher and brother Wally (Jean) Scheer, and sister-in-law Gloria (Gerald) Krob.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls and will resume one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Central Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids.

Clergy: Allen Westby, S.A.M.

Interment: Central Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids, MN
