Arlene Schachtschneider

Arlene Schachtschneider, 84, a resident of Underwood, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.  She was born March 20, 1927, on the family farm near Underwood, the daughter of Anton and Hannah (Moen) Moe.  She was baptized and confirmed at Tordenskjold Lutheran Church of rural Underwood.  Arlene attended elementary school at Dist 162 and graduated from Underwood High School in 1945. On February 15, 1948, she married Melvin Schachtschneider in Fergus Falls.   They lived in Fergus Falls, Dalton, Clitherall, and for the last 55 years they have lived in Underwood.  She was employed at Woolworths in Fergus Falls and later worked at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls retiring after 25 years of employment there. Arlene was an active member of the Sverdrup Lutheran Church, WELCA and the Underwood Auxiliary.  She loved to bake for her family (especially donuts), make lefse, crotchet and quilt, and do puzzles.  She had a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Steven; sisters, Marlys Fletcher and Joan Byrne; brothers Alexander (Buddy) and Duane Moe. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Melvin; her daughter, Susan (Ken) Saurer of Clitherall; her son, Barry (Laurie) of Minot, ND; sisters, Ethelyn Fletcher of St. Charles, MO, and Eleanor (Willis) Hockhalter of Hayward, CA; daughter-in-law, Carol Schachtschneider of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Betty Moe of Underwood; grandchildren, Tim Hovde of St. Cloud, Mike Hovde of Perham, Michelle (Greg) Kolrud of West Fargo, ND, Chad (Melissa) Schachtschneider of St. Cloud, Jana, Seth and Shane Schachtschneider of Fergus Falls, Carly and Chase Schachtschneider of Minot, ND; great-grandchildren, Logan and Brody Matzke of West Fargo, ND and Mason Hovde of Perham along with nieces and nephews. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 6:30 at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church Service      1 p.m. Saturday at Sverdrup Lutheran Church, Underwood, MN Clergy   Rev.
