Arlene Mae Laugen, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born November 20, 1929, in Maine Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Lena (Lofthus) Johnson. Arlene attended Underwood High School. After school, she worked on the family farm, the Green Stamp store in Fargo, and worked with her sister, Margaret “Muggs” Hagen and her husband, Arnold at their resort, “Hagen’s Point” on Pleasant lake.
On June 12, 1965, she married Chester Laugen at Tingvold Lutheran Church in rural Underwood. They made their home on the family farm in rural Rothsay, where they farmed until retirement in 1983. Together, they moved to Fergus Falls in 2010 where they lived at Mill Street. Chester passed away on October 6, 2012. Arlene moved to the Broen Memorial Home in November 2017.
Arlene enjoyed baking, coin collecting, antiques, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was active with Hedemarken Lutheran Church where she was a member and was active in the Otter Tail County Historical Society.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Chester; two sisters, Mildred Hagen, Margaret Hagen; and a brother, Anthony Johnson.
Survivors include her son, Charles (Renae) Laugen of Gilbert, AZ; two granddaughters, Kelsey and Kristina of Gilbert, AZ; a brother, Gordon (Mary) Johnson of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and a nephew.
Visitation: 5 -7 pm Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 1 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, rural Rothsay, MN
Clergy: Reverend Chris Eldredge and Pastor Dale Hexum
Interment: Hedemarken Cemetery, rural Rothsay, MN
