Arlene Joan Engelmeier, 70, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Henning. She was born August 28, 1938, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Joseph and Lillian (Olson) Safar. She grew up and lived near Ogema and attended school in Ogema, then graduated from Waubun in 1956. She went to college in Bemidji for two years. She worked for New York Life for 32 years until she retired. Arlene married Harvey Engelmeier on January 22, 1977 in Spring Lake Park, MN. Harvey said that she was the most pleasant person he has ever known. They enjoyed traveling and she enjoyed family gatherings. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Lillian, a sister, Elaine, and a niece, Tammy. Survivors include her husband, Harvey, of Fergus Falls; one stepson, Donny; one granddaughter, Tonia; two sisters, Sharon (Melvin) Wischnak, and Beverly (Ray) Andersen, both of Frazee; four brothers: Ron (Betty), and Rick (Shel), both of Ogema, Joe (Joan) of Waubun, and Duane (Barb) of Ogema; and many nieces and nephews.
