Arlene Gladys (Neu) Demmer, 88, formerly of Fergus Falls, joined her Savior peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the New River Medical Center Extended Care Facility in Monticello, Minnesota. Arlene was born on April 8, 1923, in Rockham, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Annie (Ehrich) Neu. The family moved to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota when she was a teenager. On December 31, 1946 she married Melvin Demmer. They were married for 46 years until his death in 1992. During her life Arlene lived in Fergus Falls, MN, Bloomington, MN, Madison, South Dakota, and lived her final years in Monticello, MN. Arlene worked as a lab technician at a pediatric clinic in Edina, Minnesota. She was very active and faithful to her churches, including Redemption Lutheran Church in Bloomington, and later at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Most recently she was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota. Arlene loved flowers, music, and her family. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Gothald Neu and Albert Schmidt, and two sisters, Lillian Lentz and Mildred Schmidt. Survivors include three children: Kristine (Jim) Anderson of Downers Grove, IL, Deborah Demmer of Ramsey, MN, and Jeffrey (Kay) Demmer of Elbow Lake, MN; six grandchildren: Sarah (Norman) Lingle of Pierre, SD, Jeffrey (Sarah) Simpson of Brainerd, MN, John (Michelle) Simpson of Andover, MN, Ryan (CloEve) Demmer of New York City, NY, Katherine (Shane) Ricks of Otsego, MN, and Patrick Demmer of Otsego, MN; and siblings Robert Schmidt of Redfield, SD, Emmaline Corkins of Redfield, SD, and Ida Hunt of Winslow, AZ. She also is survived by 12 great-grandchildren who all adored her.
