Arlen Milford Fronning, 69, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, October 30, 2011, at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls. He was born August 24, 1942, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Melvin O. and Alice (Ugstad) Fronning. He grew up here in town graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1960. He later attended St. Paul Vo-Tech, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree in 1971. On May 4, 1963, he married Janice Lunde at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967, serving in Vietnam as well as visiting both Poles and ports around the world. Arlen worked as an engineer timekeeper at the AMF Nuclear Plant in Denver, Colorado from 1960-1963. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked as an electronics engineer with the Univac Corporation in St. Paul from 1967-1971, then as a field engineer for ADAC Labs. While with them he was a nuclear engineer installing and servicing Beta cameras in hospitals all over the world. In 1996 he began his employment as the maintenance engineer at St. Frances Hospital in Breckenridge, MN, and for Quality Circuits in Fergus Falls, MN, until his retirement. Arlen enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, as well as racing and football. Most recently his favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Ole and Mary Fronning and Martin and Agnes Ugstad, and his parents, Alice and Melvin Fronning. Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Fergus Falls; his son, Erick (Jennifer) Fronning of Fergus Falls; two grandchildren: Brohde and Zoe Fronning of Fergus Falls; his brother, Leslie (Connie) Fronning of Fergus Falls; his sister, Virginia (Warren Johnson) Fronning of Fergus Falls; his brothers-in-law, David (Renee) Lunde and Alan (Carolyn) Lunde all of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
