Arlan Weiss, 81, a resident of Erhard, died Friday, December 29, 2017, at his home with his family under the care of LB Hospice.
He was born on February 28, 1936 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, son of Herbert & Linda (Lund) Weiss. Arlan grew up in Erhard and was baptized and confirmed at Bagstevold Lutheran Church.
He attended school in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1954.
Arlan married Arlene Thorness on June 22, 1957 at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls. The couple briefly resided in Pelican Rapids after they were married and then relocated to Erhard.
He was employed by a long-distance trucking company for 10 years and began employment as a Lineman for Lake Region Electric in 1969 where he continued his career for 30 years.
Arlan enjoyed restoring old cars, hunting, fishing, gardening and having coffee with his buddies. He served as a councilman for the City of Erhard and was on the 4th of July Committee, he later became Mayor. Arlan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard where he served on the Cemetery Committee and Church Council.
Preceding him in death were his parents; father and mother in-law, Mike and Viola Thorness, brother-in-law Merle Thorness.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Erhard; daughters, Vickie (Bill) Demblon of Glendale, AZ, Connie (Keith) Rutherford of Glendale, AZ, and Holly (Joe) Stenger of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Danielle and James Rutherford; eight step grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Ardythe) Weiss; nephew, Steve (Becky) Weiss; and nieces, Jennifer (Miles) McAllister and Bonita Thorness.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, January 4 at Grace Lutheran Church,
