Anthony Wentworth

Anthony "Tony" George Wentworth, 73, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was born July 9, 1934, in Staples, Minnesota, the son of George and Frances (Becker) Wentworth. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, and graduated from Staples High School in 1952. After graduation, Tony worked at the Northern Pacific Depot, and the Northern Pacific Telegraph Crew, which took him all over Minnesota, North Dakota and Washington. In 1957 Tony was called to duty with the U.S. Army serving at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before going overseas to Germany. On December 28, 1957, while on a short military leave, he married Louise Knosalla at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, Minnesota. He enjoyed touring France, Switzerland, Vienna, and Italy, including Naples and the Vatican while stationed in Germany. Tony was discharged from the Army in 1959 and went to work for Lampert Lumber Company as a manager in Detroit Lakes, Wahpeton, and Fergus Falls. In 1964 he began working for Otter Tail Power Company at the Hoot Lake Plant and continued there until his retirement in 1999. Tony was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, the American Legion, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Tony thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and brother-in-laws. He also enjoyed time with friends at "The Viking" and Whitey's Barber Shop, playing cards, and spending time with family. For the past six years, Tony was blessed with many new friends at the VA Home in Fergus Falls and was visited almost daily by his devoted and loving wife, Louise. Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Frances Wentworth; five brothers: Wesley, LeRoy, James, Frank, and Leo; and four sisters: Evelyn Wentworth, Geneva Gladowski, Cecelia Baker, and Margaret Adair. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Louise of Fergus Falls; sons: Craig and Tammy Wentworth and their children Travis, Trevor and Kendra of Staples, Brian and Beth Wentworth and their children Eric and Tara of Champlin, MN, Kevin and Kristi Wentworth and their children Alexis, Logan, and Cole of Fergus Falls, and Todd and Amy Wentworth and their children Meagan and Erika of Alexandria, MN; brother-in-laws: Raymond "Sonny"and Wanda Knosalla of Motley, MN, and Gary and Sandy Knosalla of Staples, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Olson Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls Clergy:     Father Joe Korf An additional prayer service will be held at 3:15 p.m.Tuesday at Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, Minnesota Interment: Evergreen Cemetery in Staples, Minnesota Military Participation: Staples VFW Post #1910 Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
