Anita Pauline Lindberg, 95, of Rothsay, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids, MN, with family nearby.
Anita Albert was born in Minneapolis, MN, on October 7, 1928, to Charles and Ragnild (Mogster) Albert. She lived in Minneapolis until 1938, when her father passed away from illness. At that time, her mother, younger brother and she moved to northwestern Minnesota to join other family members in the restaurant and resort business. They finally settled in Bagley, MN, where Anita attended school and graduated from Bagley High School in 1946.
Anita attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, in the five-year nursing program, graduating as an RN in 1951.
She was employed by the State Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN, in 1951, where she instructed student nurses. She worked there through 1955, then stayed at home to raise a family.
She enjoyed making new friends in the Fergus Falls community, and this is where she met Doug Lindberg. They were married on December 26, 1954, in the Federated Church in Fergus Falls. They settled in Doug's home town of Rothsay, MN, where he was in business with his father at Lindberg Motors. They lived there during their entire marriage of over 69 years.
She served as a dedicated member of Hamar Lutheran Church, the Wilkin County Nursing Board, the Aggassiz Study Club, as well as leading campfire girls and teaching high school Sunday School.
Doug and Anita were the proud parents of six children. When their sixth child entered kindergarten in 1972, Anita returned to work at the Regional Treatment Center (formerly State Hospital) in Fergus Falls. She enjoyed her work in Residential Management with the developmentally challenged residents. Her outgoing personality and compassion were extremely effective in helping others. She retired in 1993.
She and Doug continued to spend their summers at the cabin, "Spot of Heaven", on Lake Lida, by Pelican Rapids, MN. She treasured and enjoyed the life there - the loons, the hills, the flowers, the swimming, the bonfires, the neighbors, the awesome sunsets, and especially the large family gatherings.
She enjoyed attending school music and athletic events for their children and grandchildren. She rejoiced in their successes and always was supportive. She will be dearly missed by her family for her humor, motherly guidance, delicious meals, and most of all for her love.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Duane Albert, and brother-in-law, Jerome Lindberg.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; her six children: Leah (Dale) Hoffman of Moorhead, MN; Jana (George) Schneider of Maple Grove, MN; Kirk (Janet) Lindberg of Pelican Rapids, MN; Brad (Tracey) Lindberg of Pelican Rapids, MN; Greg (Julie) Lindberg of Plymouth, MN; and Jill (Dean) Williamschen of Fergus Falls, MN; fifteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Per Anita's wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family will have a Celebration of Life at the cottage on Lake Lida at a later date.
Memorials may be sent to New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay, and Knute Nelson Hospice.
