Allen Hanson

Allen D. Hanson, 87, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.

Allen Derwood Hanson was born April 16, 1936 to Ingvold and Irene (Peterson) Hanson in Thief River Falls, MN. He graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1954. After high school he attended North Dakota State College and Fergus Falls Community College for two years. When he moved to Fergus Falls, he worked for his dad at Hanson's Pontiac, where he got his love for cars. For a short time, he worked at the bakery in Fergus Falls. Allen served in the United States Army for two years. After his two years in the service, he got a job at the Post Office, retiring after 30 years in 1996.

On August 9, 1958, Allen married Margaret Melby in Dalton, MN.

Allen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He was a charter member of the Uninviteds Car Club and also a member of the Classic Car Club of Fergus Falls.

He loved restoring old cars, hunting with his boys, golfing, motorcycling trips, playing games with his children and grandchildren, and playing cards with friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Sharon Landberg; his son, Michael Allen Hanson; brothers-in-law, Dave Landberg, Jim Sculthorp, Richard Rorvig, Roland Renstrom, and Ernest Melby, and sisters-in-law, Patty Melby and Georgia Melby.

Allen is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret; daughter, Sandra (Kevin) Nehk, son, Daniel (Carin) Hanson, and son, Darrin (Denise) Hanson all of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Kay Hanson of Farwell; grandchildren, Benjamin Nehk, Christopher Nehk, Andrew (Erica) Nehk, Abby Nehk, Justin Hanson, Meghan Radford (Seth Harrison), Brittany Hanson (Todd Hendricks), Chase (Brittany) Hanson, Summer Hanson, Cherish Hanson, Gage Hanson, Krystle Hanson (Corey Stach), Leanna (Jeremy) Jass, Robert (Naomi) Hanson, Rylan Hanson, and Kendal Hanson; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Violet, TJ, Ty, Rose, Nash, Porter, Luca, Finnley, Landon, Jaydon, and Augustus; sisters, Adele (Gary) Larson, Diane Sculthorp, and Terri (Gary) Pattison; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy Rorvig, Evelyn Renstrom, Iolene (John) Halvorson, Laurel Jensen, David Melby, Jim (Rhonda) Melby, Luther (Delores) Melby, Mary Jane Melby, and many nieces and nephews.

Allen was a very kind and thoughtful man, He never complained about anything. He had a smile for everyone. He had a laugh that was contagious. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We love you.

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
