Alice Mae Thompson, 87, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 11, 2012, surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in North St. Paul, under the care of hospice. She was born May 9, 1925, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Hans and Ina (Johnson) Erickson. She grew up in the Pelican Rapids and Barnesville areas. She graduated from Barnesville High School, and then Moorhead State College. On August 3, 1945, she married Oliver Thompson in Pelican Rapids. The couple made their home near Pelican Rapids where they farmed. In 1953, the family moved to Fergus Falls. Alice taught at the elementary school and preschool levels in the Fergus Falls School District from 1956 to 1987. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, as well as the VFW Auxiliary, Lioness, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Sons of Norway. Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting table cloths, family photography and video, was a computer enthusiast, and was a charter member of the Village Cooperative. Preceding her in death were her husband, Oliver, a son-in-law, Miles Rose, her parents, brothers Lyle, Leonard, and Richard Erickson, and a sister, Jennette Beard. Survivors include three daughters: Cherryl Rose of North St. Paul, Sharon and George Hodnick and Barbara and Wilbur Lider all of Arizona; two grandchildren, Catherine Casseday and Steven and Amanda Rose; three great-grandchildren, Kjersten Rose Casseday, John Miles Rose, and Elizabeth Josephine Rose; five sisters: Phyllis (Robert) Meissner, Arlene Thornton, Ina (Gene) Olson, Sandra Bekkerus, and Ellen Coleman; five brothers: Rodney (Marti) Erickson, Terrence Erickson, Bernard (Sharon) Erickson, Mickal (Sheila) Erickson and Landis (Barbara) Erickson; a sister-in-law, Theresa Erickson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls.
