Alice Thompson

Alice M. Thompson, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls and formerly of the Dalton area, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Pioneer Retirement Community, Fergus Falls. The daughter of Peder and Hilda (Gullickson) Thorson, Alice was born at their farm in Leaf Mountain Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota on December 9, 1912. She grew up in Leaf Mountain Township and attended School District #70. On December 18, 1930, she married Guy Thompson in Fergus Falls. They made their home on a farm in Eagle Lake Township. In 1938, they moved to a farm in Lund Township, later St. Olaf Township. After leaving the farm in 1968 they moved to their home in Fergus Falls. Following Guy's death in 1984, Alice lived in the Page House, Riverview Apartments, Lake Region Skilled Nursing Facility and the Pioneer Home, all in Fergus Falls. Alice was a cook at the Highway Inn Cafe in Fergus Falls for several years before beginning her employment with the Fergus Falls State Hospital, in 1953, where she was a cook and worked in the sewing room. After her retirement from there in 1976, she worked part time at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy and the Pioneer Nursing Home both in the dietary department. She was a member of the Kvam Lutheran Church, rural Dalton, the Fergus Royal Neighbors, the American Legion Auxiliary of Ashby, the Eagles Club, Sons of Norway, and the VFW Auxiliary all in Fergus Falls. She organized the St. Olaf Homemakers Club and the St. Olaf 4-H Club and was a faithful worker at the Lake Region Pioneer Threshermans Reunion in Dalton. Alice enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking lefse, fishing and playing cards. She thoroughly enjoyed being with her family. Preceding her in death were her husband, Guy; a son, Harlan; a daughter, Joan Evavold; a grandson, Michael Thompson; a great-great-granddaughter, Isabelle Richarte; three sisters, Verna Veazie, Selma Anderson and Deloris Braasch; and three brothers, James, Delmer and Palmer Thorson. Survivors include her children, Duane (Marj) of Ashby, Gerald (Bev) of Fergus Falls, Vonnie (Harold) Anderson of Dilworth and Dennis (Patricia) of Fergus Falls; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, LaVay Thompson; a son-in-law, Norbert Evavold, along with a sister-in-law, Frances Thorson of Fergus Falls and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to the Kvam Cemetery Fund Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
