Alice JoAnne Scott, 69, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, December 16, 2013, peacefully at her home under the care of family and Lakeland Hospice.
She was born December 26, 1943, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingvald and Elvera (Skogrand) Raffelson. She grew up in Montevideo, graduating from Central High School. After high school she attended beauty school in Willmar. She worked in a salon in Minneapolis. In the early 70’s she moved to Fergus Falls where she worked as a beautician and then at various retail stores. In the late 70’s she earned her certification in electrolysis, and operated her business out of her home.
In the early 1990’s she went to work at the Lake Region Hospital in their dietary department, and most recently worked as a CNA until she retired in October of 2011 due to health complications.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Hockey Association. She was a devoted “Hockey Mom”.
Alice was a strong and independent person with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed discussing any topic over a cup of coffee while nibbling on one of her many sweet creations. Alice had a unique way of quickly filling a room with infectious laughter by making us laugh at ourselves or anyone else involved in the conversation. Her gift of humor lifted the spirits of many people during times of illness or personal difficulty, but could just prove equally as effective in raising the level of excitement at any celebration.
She has instilled in everyone she touched a sense of inspiration to laugh at ourselves while caring for those around us.
She will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her children: Tim (Tammy) Hocum of Kodiak, AK, Kimberly (Mark) Jacobs of Fergus Falls, and Jason (Amy Perrine) Scott of Minnetonka, MN; her grandchildren: Aaron and Anders Hocum of Kodiak, AK, and Jack and Parker Jacobs of Fergus Falls; her siblings: Marilyn (Bill) Brune of Grand Rapids MI, Glory (Chuck) Tillmann of Alexandria, Winnie Raffelson of Minneapolis, and Gary (Carol) Raffelson of Montevideo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a time to visit with family and friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Peterson officiating. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care and Research Center or Lakeland Hospice.
