Alice Olson

Alice Victoria Olson, 90, a resident of Fergus Falls and formerly of Dalton, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born February 20, 1919, in Sanford Township of Grant County, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Clara (Schonberg) Selander. She grew up there, and graduated from Ashby High School. On October 14, 1938, she married Ragnar Olson in Strandburg, South Dakota. Over the years she worked as a cook for the road crew men working on Highway 35, and at the Dalton Creamery. She was then employed as a surgical assistant at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, retiring in 1981 after 21 years of employment. She was a member of Zion-Sarpsborg Lutheran Church in Dalton.  Alice enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking, trout fishing, snowmobiling, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, and playing bingo and cards. She also enjoyed traveling, including taking an Alaskan cruise, and travels to Norway, Sweden, and Hawaii. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ragnar, in 1969; her siblings: Anton (Nora) Selander, Eleanor (Selmer) Risbrudt, Olga (Walter) Olson, Ray Selander, Arthur Selander, and Hazel Buffington; a grandson, Nicholas Dean Olson; a son-in-law, Buddy Coughran; brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Verna Olson, Rudolph and Esther Olson and Ruth Olson; and a step-grandson, Terry Coughran. Survivors include four children: Donna (Dale) Stine of Dalton, Anita Coughran of Bakersfield, CA, Dean (Rose) Olson of Underwood, and Maureen (Donald) Jacobson of Underwood; 11 grandchildren:  Brenda (Miles) Stine, Denise Stine, Nicole Stine, Clark Stine, Lance (Michelle) Stine, Jeff (Shari) Fick, Mark (Kelly) Fick, Pam (Rick) Gerster, Kristina (Mark) Jorgenson, Rebecca (Merlin) Koskela, and Kyle (Tracie) Jacobson; four step-grandchildren: Donald (Kiki) Coughran, Deborah (Craig) Kempkes, Melissa (Brian) Earnshaw, and Roxanne (James) Irwin; ten great-grandchildren: Samantha Schellin, Breanna Schellin, Sadie Harig, Mallory Fick, Fletcher Fick, Ryley Fick, Emily Fick, Jason Fick, Joshua Fick, and Samantha Fick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
