Alice Olivia Kimber, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Golden Manor Assisted Living Facility in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She was born June 1, 1916, near Henning, Minnesota, the daughter of Lars and Ida (Anderson) Bendickson. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. Alice was the pianist for the Marlin Bendickson Orchestra from the age of 12 until she was 21. On June 22, 1937, she married Melvin Kimber in Sisseton, South Dakota. They settled in Battle Lake where she was a homemaker and mother, and assisted with their business, Kimber Harness and Awning. The family moved to Fergus Falls in 1951, re-establishing their business as Kimber Awning Company. Alice was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she participated in several programs within the church. She was also a member of a homemakers group for a number of years. Alice enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing whist, playing the piano, and entertaining family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Melvin on February 1, 1997, a grandson, Collin Kimber Writesman in 1996, and brothers Ben, Leuie, Edwin, and Marlin Bendickson. Survivors include her daughters, Malva Walsh of Penticton, British Columbia, and Cynthia Kimber (Kendall Shannon) of Camden Point, MO; two granddaughters, Alyson Batley of Penticton, BC, and Lani (Denis) Rouillard of Sylvan Lake, AB; two great-grandchildren: Shawn Batley and Madison Rouillard; a sister-in-law, Vera Bendickson of rural Henning; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley and the staffs of Golden Manor in Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes for their attentive care during Alice’s final years. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
