Alice Gronseth

Alice Gronseth, age 90, of Fergus Falls and formerly of Rothsay and Edinburg, Texas, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 surrounded by her family at PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls. Alice Evelyn Gronseth was born September 28, 1920 at her parents’ home in Akron Township in Wilkin County, Minnesota, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Ronningen) Amundson. Alice grew up on the Amundson farm and attended District #5 in Akron Township, and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota. On June 1, 1941 Alice married Eddie Gronseth at the Hamar parsonage in Rothsay. Alice and Eddie farmed and raised registered Hereford cattle and won numerous awards throughout Minnesota and other states. Alice and Eddie moved to Edinburg, Texas in 1969 and began a second business, the All American Mobile Home Park. Alice was active in their business enterprises, doing all the bookkeeping and registering the Hereford cattle. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McAllen, Texas and a member of the Hamar Lutheran Church of Rothsay. She served on various committees of the Hamar Church. They were members of the American Hereford Association and the Edinburg, Texas Chamber of Commerce. For many years they provided leadership for the Trondjhem Gophers 4-H Club. They were also actively involved with the Winter Shows of Crookston, Minnesota. Alice and Eddie were named Master Farmer and Homemaker for Otter Tail County in 1966. Alice was an excellent seamstress and passed that skill and many others including knitting and crocheting on to her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family in Texas and summers at Jewett Lake, and visiting with people who stayed at the All American Mobile Home Park. They celebrated their Norwegian heritage and traveled to Norway and were members of the Sigdalslag. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Eddie, and her brothers and sisters: Lillian (Amundson) Mead, Henry, Elias, George, and Maurice Amundson, and Alette (Amundson) Agnew. Survivors include her three daughters, Marilyn (Clifford) Moen of Erhard, MN, Kathy (Del) Zimmerman of Fergus Falls, MN, and Virginia Veazie of Duluth, MN; six grandchildren: Scott (Jillene) Moen of Eden Prairie, MN, Crystal (John) Walkup of Ronan, MT, Kerry Kolle of Fergus Falls, MN, Kevin (Becky) Kolle of Chaska, MN, Kayla (Sean) Sullivan of Fergus Falls, MN, and Lary Veazie of Duluth, MN; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kristian and Megan Moen, Chase, Nathan and Autumn Walkup, Jared, Tanner and Easton Kolle, and Alexandra, Kellie and Patrick Sullivan. She is also survived by two brothers, James (Elaine) Amundson of Rothsay, and Robert (Lillian) Amundson of Mesa, AZ, and her sisters-in-law, Ramona Amundson of Washougal, WA, and Olida Wigdahl of Fergus Falls, MN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to the New Life Lutheran Church Building Fund Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
