Alfreda Eide

Helen Alfreda Eide, 91, a resident of the Mill Street Residence in Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Alfreda was born on September 24, 1921 in Pelican Rapids, MN, the daughter of Alfred and Jorgine (Hanson) Svare. She was confirmed at Ringsaker Church, Pelican Rapids and attended District #35 W, later called District #229, school. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1939. Alfreda worked at St. Lukes Hospital as a nurse’s aide from 1940-1942 and then at the Fergus Falls State Hospital as a house mother at the Nurses Cottage until 1947.

On June 20, 1947 she married Edwin Eide at Bagstevold Lutheran Church in Erhard, Minnesota. Through the years Alfreda was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a homemaker. She was Edwin’s business partner as well as an Avon representative.

She was a faithful member of Hedemarken Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, belonged to the Ladies Aid, and was an adult leader for Luther League. She was also a member of the Carlisle Homemakers, and served as a 4-H leader. In her later years she became an artist and enjoyed oil painting.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Edwin, who died in 2006; siblings, Lawrence, who died in infancy, Harold (Gladys) Svare, Cora (Charles) Loken, Edna (Cliff) Kieland, Adeline (Hans) Sethre, Florence Weberg, Mildred (Alvin) Sethre, Lorraine (Howard) Eide and Vince Svare; and brothers and sisters-in-law, James Ogard, Clarence Haug, Ansgar (Thora) Eide, Alfred Kvern and Mildred (Sidney) Sether.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Roger) Anhorn of Alexandria, and Nancy (Tom) Reek of Deerwood, MN; four grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Anhorn of St. Cloud, Lecia (Blair) Hovel of Alexandria, Christopher Reek of Mankato, and Jennifer (Mike) Nelson of Wausau, WI; five great-grandchildren, Presley Anhorn, Isabelle and Rosemary Hovel and Erik and Carley Nelson; sister, Lenore Haug of Ada; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Quentin Weberg of Minnetonka, John Henry (Beverly) Eide of Moorhead, Gen Svare of Ada and Bernice Kvern of Fergus Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a public prayer service at 6:30 at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, rural Carlisle, Minnesota
