Alfred Fronning

Alfred Harold Fronning, of Fergus Falls, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls at the age of 93 years. He was born July 19, 1917 on the home farm in Aastad Township, rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Ole N. and Mary (Lien) Fronning. Alfred had nine brothers and three sisters. He was baptized and confirmed in the Aastad Lutheran Church, and attended rural school District #118 in Aastad Township. Alfred and Mila B. Holloway were married on February 20, 1944 at First English Church of Fergus Falls. They farmed her folk’s farm south of Fergus Falls in Orwell Township for a few years, and then moved to a farm a few miles north of Fergus Falls in Fergus Falls Township for a few years. In 1953 they purchased their own dairy farm south of Fergus Falls in Buse Township. They lived on this farm until 1979 when they moved to Fergus Falls. Alfred enjoyed his years of farming and seeing the many changes that transformed farming into what it is today. While he accepted off farm work in the later years as a bus driver, baker, and custodian, he continued to assist his son with farming for years. He enjoyed helping his children throughout his life. He has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, and he enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, square dancing, card playing, socializing, and sharing his life with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by all of those connected with him. Preceding him in death were his parents; nine brothers: Walter, Melvin, Leon, Chester, Ernest, Alvin, Palmer, Noble, and Oscar; two sisters, Myrtle Baasen and Mildred Bjore; and a son-in-law, Gerald Tenneson. Survivors include his wife, Mila; two daughters: Janelle (Duane) Gibble and Mary (John) Bamberg; two sons: Bruce (Lori) Fronning and Brian Fronning; 12 grandchildren: Teresa (Colt) Pearson, Kristie Witt, Eric (Janell) Gibble, Jessica Gibble, Mike (Dawn) Tenneson, Jennifer (Joe) Bieniek, Nathan Fronning, David Fronning, Ashley Fronning, Christina (Jayne) Blowers, Jeremy Fronning and Adam (Ashley) Fronning; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna (Elmer) Guderian; and one sister-in-law, Ardis Fronning. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
