Alden James Steiner, 81, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Alden was born on July 20, 1927 in Breckenridge, the son of Albert and Clara (Wallin) Steiner. He was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay. In 1931, Alden’s mother, Clara passed away. At that time he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Alma and Charles Steiner. Alden was born blind. However, he received surgery for his eyes in St. Paul, which partially restored his sight. At the age of eight, he attended Fairbault School for the Blind and in 1937 he returned to the family farm, where he attended school at District 24, Akron Township in Wilkin County. His father married Edna Peterson on April 24, 1946 and together they continued to farm the family farm. Alden had an everlasting love for farming and lived on the family farm until April of 2000, at which time he moved to Pioneer Pointe. Alden joined Augustana Lutheran Church on December 11, 1947 and has been an active member since. Alden will be remembered for his uncanny sense of memory of family history. He could easily recall events and their dates. He enjoyed playing the accordion, reading, visiting with people, walking and listening to the radio. Preceding him is death were his parents; one little sister, Angeline Jean, who died in 1926 and his step mother, Edna. Survivors include his first-cousins, Robert Steiner, Lorraine Ostlund, Myron, Gordon and Donald Wallin, and numerous other cousins and their families along with his stepmother, Edna’s family.
