Albin Sundberg

Albin Edward Sundberg, 90, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born October 18, 1919, at his family farm located in Maine Township – Pickerel Lake, in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of David and Christine (Berglund) Sundberg. He attended country school and then Washington High School in Fergus Falls. Early in his life he worked in several areas, in particular the Standard Oil Company in Richmond, California, before his induction into the U.S. Army during World War II. Albin spent most of his duty in a Signal Corp in Burma, and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his return to Fergus Falls, he was employed at the A.B. Kilde Company. On August 19, 1950, he married Ada LeMont of Elizabeth. They moved to Minneapolis where he attended Dunwoody Institute, graduating in 1953. In 1954 they moved to Colorado.  There they raised their two children, Susan and Scott.  Al  worked for Gates Rubber Company in Denver for 28 years, retiring in 1982.  After his retirement from Gates he  worked part time at Mission Hills Baptist Church in Littleton, Colorado. He and his family spent parts of their summers in Minnesota, and winters in Colorado.  They lived in Colorado for 46 years.   In  2000 they moved from  Colorado  to Fergus Falls. Albin loved to travel, hunt, fish, hike, garden, photography, carpentry, and was well read. He enjoyed his family and playing games with his grandchildren, relatives, neighbors, and friends. While in Colorado he was a member of Mission Hills Baptist Church in Littleton, Colorado, and Platte Canyon Community Church in Bailey, Colorado, and is currently a member of First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ada Sundberg, of Fergus Falls; a daughter, Susan (Ray) Benhardus of Underwood; a son, Scott (Wendy) Sundberg of Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren: Steven (Trudy) Densmore of Fergus Falls, Christine (Aaron) Torfin of Dalton, and Leif and Sven Sundberg of Lancaster, PA; five great-grandchildren: Noah, Gideon, and Malachi Densmore of Fergus Falls, and Mikayla and Ashton Torfin of Dalton; a brother, Paul (Helen) Sundberg of Pickerel Lake; a sister-in-law, Kay LeMont of St. Cloud; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Gilbert, and two sisters, Gladys Fuder and Agnes Sundberg. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls with Rev. Ned Eerdmans officiating.  Military participation will be provided by the Fergus Falls VFW and American Legion.  Interment will be at a later date at Silent Vale Cemetery near Maine, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls, and the Mennonite Disaster Services in Akron, PA.  Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
