Agnes Johansen, age 92, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born July 28, 1916, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Petra (Sjolie) Thorson. She was the oldest of five girls. When Agnes was six years old the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota. She graduated from Central High School in January of 1935. She worked and put herself through Moorhead Teacher’s College. She then taught country school in the Pelican Rapids area and later in the Underwood area. While teaching in Underwood she met Kenneth Johansen, and they were married November 26, 1942, at the parsonage in Underwood. They settled on the Johansen family home farm in Tordenskjold Township. Two children were born to them, Dale and Joyce. They lived on the farm until Kenneth suffered a stroke in 1993. He moved to a nursing home, and she moved to the Page House in Fergus Falls, living there until 2006 when she moved to the Pioneer Retirement Community. Agnes belonged to the Underwood American Legion Auxiliary where she was active until the last years she was on the farm. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She attended the church circles at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, and joined Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls after moving there. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, and loved to spend time with her grandchildren – enjoying special days with each of them shopping for their birthdays. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband, Kenneth in 1997. Survivors include her children, Dale (Betty) Johansen and Joyce (Jack) Albjerg, all of rural Underwood; four grandchildren: Jim (Carol) Johansen of Hawley, Paul (LeAnne) Johansen of Eagle Lake, Judy (Scott) Kuntz of Rothsay, and Gene (Wendy) Albjerg of Sartell; and six great-grandchildren: Thomas, Brady, and Keegan Johansen, Levi Kuntz, and Sienna and Sawyer Albjerg.
