Agnes Eleanor Bowman

Agnes Eleanor Bowman, age 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Agnes was born on January 25, 1923 on the family farm homesteaded by her grandparents, in Oscar Township of Otter Tail County, MN, the daughter of Carl and Sigrid (Hagen) Fosse. She grew up on this farm, completing elementary grades in rural school #125. She attended Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1940. Agnes then attended Moorhead State Teachers College, earning her two year teaching diploma in 1941.

In 1946, Agnes married Clayton Bowman at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in rural Carlisle. She was a life- long and active member of Hedemarken Church and participated fully in the work and mission of the church.

Agnes taught in rural schools, including the Gunderson School in Clay County, which was affiliated with the college, where she supervised student teachers who were acquiring their rural teaching credits here.

Agnes returned to Moorhead State College to obtain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She spent the next 20 years as a substitute teacher in the Special Education Department of the Fergus Falls ISD #544. Agnes spent many years in her retirement volunteering at Lake Region Hospital, working with the American Cancer Society and at the Otter Tail County Historical Museum in Fergus Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton Bowman; brothers and wives, Frederick (Clarice) Fosse and C. Arthur (Edith) Fosse; sister, Inga (Norman) Kragrud; daughter-in-law, Melinda Bowman; three nephews, Charles Fosse, Richard Fosse and Tom Fosse; and two nieces, Nancy Aune and Marilyn LeRuox.

Agnes is survived by her son, Donald (Pam Nelson) Bowman of Fergus Falls, five grandchildren: Nicole (Jason) Nordby of Dilworth, Thomas (Whitney) Bowman of Alkeny, IA, Catherine Bowman of Atlanta, GA, Dustin Bowman of Mankato and Chris Bowman of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren: India Nordby of Dilworth and Jayden Bowman of Atlanta, GA.; two nephews: Ron Fosse of Fargo, ND and Paul (Sandy) Fosse of Rothsay; and five nieces, Judy (Harlan) Lysne and Virginia (Mark) Ronning of Fergus Falls, Barbara Fosse of Flagstaff, AZ, Diane (Steven) Houge of Fergus Falls and Bonnie (Mrs. Tom) Fosse of Rothsay.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Hedemarken Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
