Adeline “Addie” Shjerve
Adeline “Addie” Shjerve, 79, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, April 8, 2018.
She was born on June 2, 1938, the daughter of Herman and Ida Hanson, on her grandfather’s farm. After grade school, Addie attended Washington Junior High. In 1956, Addie graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.
On August 31, 1958, Addie married Roger J. Shjerve, in Esmond, North Dakota. Together they helped start Our Redeemer’s Church in Minot, ND. All members gave a week’s wage to help get the church started. In 1960, the couple moved to Fergus Falls. Addie and Roger started spending their winters in Arizona in 1994 and loved it.
Addie owned and operated North Union Towing with her husband. She also was employed with the Clarence Parker Hotel, Jamestown Trinity Hospital, Ranch House, and the Broen Home. She also worked with Rosenblatt’s, and the Fergus Falls Medical Group.
Addie was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Dalton Threshing, and was the treasurer and competitive player for the Venture Out Croquet Club. She was also involved with the Stephen Ministry, Bible Study leader, she sang in the ladies’ chorus, and she also got the Venture Out sing along started again. She was a chairperson for the Christian Women’s group, a greeter at bible study and chorus, and a decorating chairperson for Continental Coffee. One of her greatest pleasures was being a mentor for her granddaughter, Maddy on her Confirmation.
Addie enjoyed making cinnamon bread and sugar cookies, which were her family’s favorites. She also enjoyed hiking, camping, and going to threshing shows. Addie loved her flowers and playing with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Herman and Ida Hanson; husband, Roger Shjerve; parents-in-law, John and Eva Shjerve; brothers-in-law, Dale Shjerve, Bob Bjerke, Bernie Marion, Clemens Fettig; and sister-in-law, Gloria Shjerve.
Survivors include her children, Paul (Wendy) Shjerve of Fergus Falls, Renee (Sheldon) Steen of Casselton, ND, and David (Heidi) Shjerve of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Angela (Ryan) Peterson of Fergus Falls, Trina (Cody) Wojciechowski of Middle River, Sunniva (Zach) Thom of Fergus Falls, Jared Steen of Fargo, ND, Austin, Madison, and Colton Shjerve all of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren, Mavyn and Evan Peterson, Grayson Thom, Theo Wojciechowski; brother, Lester (Sandy) Hanson of Fergus Falls; sisters, LaVern (Randy) Todd of Lacey, WA, Shari (Craig) Vaughn of Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law, Gene (Ida) Shjerve of Grand Forks, MN, Norman Shjerve of Mandan, ND; sisters-in-law, Helen Lewis of Surrey, ND, Joyce Fettig of Minot, ND, Lorraine Shjerve of Fargo, ND, Marilyn Bjerke of Rugby, ND, Linda Marion of Sacramento, CA; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care and Research Center; LB Hospice or Bethel Lutheran Church-Stephen Ministries.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, with a 6:30 p.m. public prayer service, at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverend Rich Iverson
Interment: Bethlehem Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
